Two of our students, Alexandros Mentesidis and Marios Katzigas, received the Student Entrepreneurship Award during the "Genuine Innovative Youth Awards 2023".

Our students were selected for their business idea called  'Sleek', a smart bin that aims to remove all the hassle and inconvenience of dealing with rubbish. They had already won 5th place in the international Innovator competition and were the first team outside the US to receive such an honor. They have truly demonstrated what it means to be creative and enterprising young individuals.

Memory project 2023
Our art teacher, Ms. Kapanidou, is collaborating for the second time with the Memory project organization. This is a youth arts organization that promotes intercultural understanding and kindness between children around the world. They intend to touch the lives of youth around the world who are facing many types of challenges.

Our Art elective students each received a picture of a child from an orphanage in India and they created a portrait that will be sent to them as a gift.  In this way, our students open their hearts and minds to touch those of the children in return.
Independence Day Celebrations at Pinewood
This year our Elementary students participated in two educational field trips in honor of Greek Independence Day. Grades 1, 2 and 3 students visited the Center of Byzantine Culture "Justinianos" in Nea Flogita, where our amazing retired Pinewood teacher, Ms. Amalia Spiliakou, gave the students a tour. They also visited an exhibition about the Greek revolution and watched a 3D video about the Revolution in the region of Chalkidiki. Students from Grades 4,5 and 6 visited the War Museum in Thessaloniki. They got to look at exhibits related to the Greek Revolution and collections focusing on Modern Greek history dating from the turn of the 20th Century until the liberation of Greece from German forces at the end of World War II.

The Secondary students gathered on this special day to celebrate the Greek Independence Day. Students from Grades 9 & 10, under the supervision of Ms. Adelfopoulou and Ms. Kika, worked on a presentation about historical events and interests. Narrations, poems, dances, and various other materials were presented during the celebration.

Elementary students at the Pottery Exhibition

Our Grade 3 students visited our Pinewood Alumni, Christine Willis' pottery exhibition, '50 Years a Potter'. Our students had the opportunity to witness the magic and watch Ms. Willis create a honey pot and a big bowl. They also created their own small clay sculptures inspired by the exhibition. The third graders gathered inspiration for their competition project, a bee hotel totem pole, that they are working on in their Art and STEAM class.

Elementary students Art Projects
Our 4th-grade students finished their art class unit: Exploring Patterns. They learned to make repeat patterns, customize them, and put them on online fabric products! In the above picture, you can see the base of the pattern and how it looked on the fabric.
Our second graders finished their art unit, Be An Architect! They began the project by defining what architecture is. Then they did various explore and draw activities and referenced famous architectural structures. They drew inspiration from the architect Hundertwasser and, finally, using a collection of recyclable materials, created a structure of their own. If you want to see the mini city they created, it will be displayed in the Design Studio until Spring break!
Plastic Bottles Caps

Nicole Kouzounis and Aikaterini Dimitra Kizilitza (Grade 9) are collecting plastic water bottle caps for their community project. They will donate the bottle caps to the iwog donation center, which supports a wheelchair program for disabled Greek basketball players.

A ton of bottle caps, roughly 540.000 caps, can yield 120€, the starting price for a wheelchair. So don't throw your bottle caps; put them in the "bottle cap box" at the entrance!

Species under Threat

Gabriele Cerullo (Grade 9) wants to use his community project to advocate for animal welfare. He is targeting social media users by sharing posters about animals at risk of extinction and the related conservation efforts done for that specific species. By creating a profile and eventually asking various organizations to re-post his work on their official website/social media profile, Gabriele hopes his project will reach many people interested in animal welfare.
