Celebrating Girls and Women at Pinewood
Today is International Women's Daya day to honor the trailblazing women before us and celebrate the dynamic girls and women in our Pinewood community and in our lives.

Throughout the international school world, only 25% of Heads of School are women (ISC Research) and so I am exceptionally proud to be a woman leading our American international school, one which values, celebrates, and embraces the achievements of girls and women.
At Pinewood, we recognize the importance of gender equality and strive to create a safe and inclusive environment where girls and women can thrive and reach their full potential.

Our school actively hosts projects that highlight the contributions of women across various fields, and we encourage our students to develop a deeper understanding of the role of women in history, society, and culture.  To name just a few this year, we have honored women during our Black History month, Holocaust Remembrance Day, Book week, Entrepreneurship week, Career day, Women in Science day, and throughout the regular school curriculum.

Today and every day, we stand with women all around the world and will continue to work towards a more just and equitable future for all.

Roxanne Giampapa
Head of School
Our Student Services team and our Grade 9 students prepared activities for this year's Anti-Bullying Week. The activities include in-class exercises and school-wide projects on the Elementary and Secondary campuses.

March 6: Students & teachers on both campuses wore odd socks to celebrate the uniqueness of individuals.

March 7
: Secondary students created a tree on the bulletin board where students are encouraged to write actions they will take to prevent bullying in our school. In Elementary, teachers prepared an assembly where the students drew individual messages, which were combined on an anti-bullying quilt

March 8: Students in Grades 7 to 9 completed the questionnaire the Grade 9 students prepared, regarding well-being. They also used an old t-shirt to create a strong message against bullying!

March 9: During break and lunch periods, our Secondary students can go to the library to play board games (organized by Marina, Otari, and Simonas).

March 10: Students will wear their customized t-shirts to raise awareness.

In-class: Students together and their Advisors will draw up an agreement with the whole classroom to pledge that no bullying will occur.
Oleksandr - 6th place in World Math Competition
We are excited to announce Oleksandr Mykhailiuk's success in the PANGEA International Math Competition. He ranked 6th out of 135 participants from all over the world. The rigorous math competition has been steadily growing in the number of participants every year since 2007. Over 21 countries were represented in this year's competition alone!

Oleksandr joined Pinewood School under a full scholarship due to the trust and generous support of the Pinewood Board of Trustee member Ms. Kennie Bissel Grogan, who committed to support him until his graduation!
PODCAST by Student Services team
Yesterday, our first video podcast, "I Have a Question" Parent Edition, took place at the Elementary library. In this podcast, our Student Services team addressed  our parents' questions regarding their children. The topics ranged from academics and learning to social-emotional well-being and health.

Imaginary Museum - Grade 2 Greek Native Students
During their Greek lesson, students in grade 2 learned that museums are important educational environments and that their collections provide people with a tangible connection to time, places and events. So Grade 2 students and their teacher, Ms.Sophia, decided to convert their classroom into a museum. Each student brought an object from home and presented it to their classmates, students from other grades, and teachers! This was an interesting experience that allowed the students to engage actively in the process of acquiring knowledge and to express thoughts and emotions about the objects and their importance!
Elementary field trip to TEFAA
Our elementary students were buzzing with excitement when they left for their much-anticipated field trip. The first activity was climbing, and the students eagerly donned their helmets and harnesses before making their way to the towering wall. Next was the zip line, where the students used the swaying ropes high above the ground. They then practiced their aim during archery. This athletic field trip  provided our students with a fun and memorable experience that challenged them to step outside their comfort zones, to try new things, to increase their confidence and improve their teamwork skills.
 Book week - presentations
Grade 5 Greek Native students and their teacher, Ms. Sophia, welcomed and interviewed our Secondary art teacher, Ms. Kapanidou, who is the illustrator of the book they read: Η Μυστηριώδης Βιβλιοθηκάριος. The students were really excited to meet the inspiring illustrator in person!
Our Greek teachers, Ms. Filiana, Ms. Sophia and Ms. Evi, collaborated with our music teacher Ms. Eva Ieropoulou for a Reading Week lesson. Ms. Eva presented her Greek book Ο Πόλεμος Των Κάστρων, a story that beautifully portrays how people can live in peace despite differences and conflict. The students sang with passion during the interactive narration by our music teacher.
Dormitory students and paintball
Our Pinewood Dormitory students and our psychologists, Ms. Smaragda and Ms. Anastasia, had a wonderful time at the paintball field. They enjoyed making teams and playing against each other while showing wonderful sportsmanship and spending quality time together.
Pinewood Times is PInewood's Student Council newspaper, organized, written and designed by Secondary students. Enjoy!
IB ART Exhibition

Students of Grades 11 and 12, are exhibiting artworks they created during their International Baccalaureate (IB) Visual Arts course. The young artists have explored a variety of subjects and challenges in order to create engaging and meaningful artworks while experimenting with painting, sculpture, digital art, photography, printmaking, and video art.

There is a wide variety of topics that the students explored, all requiring the audience to think critically about the issues depicted and consider the many small and big adjustments that our world requires today. The audience is called to contemplate trending topics of the literal and symbolic manifestation of trauma, body image, and mental illness, as well as recurrent topics about our life cycle, the natural world with its beauties and its horrors, and a novel viewpoint on Greek mythological female characters.

The opening of the exhibition will take place in the Remezzo Gallery space in Kalamaria, on Thursday, March 16, at 18.00. The artists will be presenting their work and will be available to answer questions. The exhibition is curated by visual artist and art teacher Ms. Konstantina Kapanidou.
