IMPORTANT NOTICE - CHANGE OF DATE

The Professional Development Day will take place on Friday, February 17, instead of Friday, February 10! Therefore, February 10 will be a regular school day, and there will be NO SCHOOL on February 17.

Please be informed that Covid cases are on the rise at Pinewood Elementary. As such, this is a kind reminder to keep an eye on the typical symptoms for Covid, including but not limited to headache, sore throat, cough, and fever.

If your child displays symptoms, please do a Covid self-test. In the event of a positive Covid test, you are required to inform the school and keep your child home for 5 days. Upon return to school, your child is required to wear a  mask for the next 5 days.

We have contacted EODY to ensure that we continue to follow all protocols for both Covid positive cases and cleaning and sanitizing. In addition, your children are always welcome to wear a mask to school for additional protection.

Please do not hesitate to contact the school (2310-398-460 EL or 2310-301-221 SEC) should you have any questions.

Wishing everyone good health.

Honoring Martin Luther King Jr. Day

On Monday, January 16th, the Language & Literature Department proudly celebrated MLK Day. All Secondary School students examined his iconic 1963 March on Washington speech “I Have a Dream”, as well as his 1963 "Letter from a Birmingham Jail", focusing on how their tremendous impact is perfectly justified by their unique and exquisite stylistic and structural craftsmanship. Students also engaged in research and discussions regarding MLK’s life and achievements, his passion for truth, justice, and equality, and how relevant his message of truth, love, and civil disobedience is in our current times.

Martin Luther King Jr. (Jan. 15, 1929 - April 4, 1968) dedicated his life to the nonviolent struggle for racial equality and the civil rights movement in the United States. The third Monday in January marks Martin Luther King Jr. Day, a U.S. holiday that honors King’s legacy.

IB1 Art Students at the MOMus

As part of their IB visual arts course with Ms Kapanidou, our IB1 art students attended the Fred Boissonas exhibition at the Museum of Photography this week. The exhibition is a photographic shot of the sea between Sicily and Tunisia and its silver reflections back in 1912, as well as a photographic self-portrait of the in 1900s. In all of the 110 works and multimedia applications presented, our students followed Fred Boissonnas’ vision on photography, the sources of his inspiration, and his long quest to raise photography to the realm of fine art.

The students were also introduced to the medium of photography with an interactive lecture by a professional photographer and completed a practice workshop there. They were given a task and time to practice this art form, share their work and receive feedback on their photographs in order to develop their skills. Refreshed and inspired, our students returned to embark on a photography unit journey!
