2nd Graders - first 3D print!

The 3D printer in our Elementary Design Studio has not stopped printing since the start of the school year. 3D printing is one of the main components of our STEAM program. Our elementary students have already won two National 3D Design Awards with their designs in assistive devices, chess pieces, tools, and artifacts.

Creating the first 3D printed object in 2nd grade is always a very important moment. The students discussed and researched different types of houses in their Transdisciplinary Unit titled “Who We Are” with Ms. Isla and Ms. Laina. They then drew houses and designed them using a 3D modeling software during their STEAM lessons with their teachers and Mr. Christos. They learned how 3D printers and 3D modeling software work and followed specific requirements to be able to print the designs.

3D printing is one of the major breakthrough technologies that is changing and will increasingly change our lives. Our students are developing the skills and building a toolkit that will allow them to become the innovators and creators of tomorrow!

Native Greek Class / Project 'Κύκλος του νερού'
In the unit about water and its cycle on the Earth's surface, our Greek 4th Graders prepared team projects about the stages of the water cycle, the animals that live in different water environments, and the impact of pollution. The students had the opportunity to experiment with a steam activity. They created clouds and observed how fast the rain came out of them in condensed form. All this was the preparatory work for the field trip to the Water Museum of Thessaloniki, which is approaching soon as part of their TDL unit "Who we are".

MAKE-A-WISH START PROGRAM

Make-A-Wish Greece grants the wishes of children with life-threatening medical conditions. They collect donations through the Wish Star program.

By simply donating 2 euros for a Wish Star, you receive a paper star, which in turn becomes a star of love, thus making the life of a sick child full of light and hope!

You can buy your star at the Elementary and Secondary reception until the end of December!
The Joy Box Project

Pinewood Elementary students chose to support the 'Initiative For The Child'. This organization gets custody of abused/neglected children after a prosecutor's order or a court decision and raises them in a family atmosphere. The organization was developed with Niarchos and Laskarides funds and they won the Hyatt Community Grants award in 2016. The children are currently living at  Vergina House, a family-run hostel for the long-term accommodation of children at risk.
Elementary students will prepare a gift and a card dedicated to each one of the 45 children that the organisation accommodates. Our after-school jewelry club, and art club students are also preparing artistic gifts for the children.
As winter finally arrived in Thessaloniki, we want to introduce Alpis Ski Club, a not-for-profit ski club that provides ski lessons for children aged 4 to 14, and race training for young ski athletes.

Lessons start on Friday, January 6, and continue until the end of the season. Click on the button below for more information about the program.

Ms. Tuba Uslu, a Pinewood parent, is helping with the organization of the ski lessons. You can contact her if you have any questions.
