Sustainability project 'Greenhouse'
#72c2a1
Grade 3 students have worked on a greenhouse project glass-roofed structures in which plants are grown.  A greenhouse creates an artificial environment (a steady-state climate) by careful control of temperature, light, humidity, air quality, soil moisture, and heat levels. In some greenhouses, these controls are governed by computers! The project was part of the TDL unit 'Who we are'' after learning all about being global citizens and sustainability.
Jewerly Art- After School Club
Our little artists from the jewelry club get to sharpen their creativity and aesthetics every week.

They create necklaces, bracelets, and  a variety of decorative pieces. Theirs works are a reflection of everyone's personality but are also a product of teamwork.

The works will be showcased in the  Elementary and Secondary campus and some items will be donated to other children through "the smile of the child" nonprofit organization.
Visual Story Design- After School Club
#72c2a1
In our after-school club, Virtual Story Design, students in grades 1-4 explore unimagined worlds of storyscapes, plots, and whimsical characters in the realm of online learning. Students learn how to use a variety of child-appropriate applications and navigate the weaving of virtual stories to persuade the head and the heart of the reader.
Thanksgiving Feast

Thanksgiving is a longstanding Pinewood tradition that, due to Covid, we were not able to hold. For the new families who are joining us this year, the tradition is that the parents and students cook for the feast.

For elementary, the room parent representatives will be getting in touch soon with more information on what type of food your grade level has been assigned and how you can help out with this tradition by setting up, serving, and cleaning up.

In the Secondary division, students will set up and clean up. An email will be sent out to the parents and the students with more information.

ALUMNA STORY: Elena Karatli '14

Elena graduated from Pinewood in 2014 after building her communication skills in the debate club. She went on to study International Hospitality Management at Technological University Dublin, and after earning her bachelor’s degree, she started working in her intended field as a marketing executive at an international Hilton branch

Once the pandemic began, however, Elena set about a new career trajectory: technology. She began applying her skill sets as a marketing and sales associate for a start-up company focused on artificial intelligence and Wi-Fi solutions. After familiarizing herself with the tech industry, Elena wanted yet another change of environment: one with bigger opportunities for growth and a structure that nurtured her ambitions. In August 2021, she landed a position at Google specializing in publisher relations and monetization strategy for the Greek and Cypriot market. She is grateful to live in Ireland while still connecting with her Greek homeland through her work. Most recently, she completed her first major business trip where she toured Athens and Cyprus, networking and learning more about the publishing industry in Greece.

Her journey serves as a reminder that it is ok to be unsure of where your life is heading as long as you remain passionate and motivated to keep moving forward. We are so proud of Elena for staying ambitious and opening up her path to international connections and opportunities.

Earth Prize Foundation
#72c2a1

The Earth Foundation, a nonprofit organization based in Geneva, Switzerland have recently launched the second edition of The Earth Prize, a global $200,000 environmental sustainability competition for students between the ages of 13 and 19, which rewards the teams whose projects have the most potential to address environmental issues.

We would like to share this initiative, as it is a great opportunity for students to learn more about environmental sustainability and entrepreneurship, and to make an impact.

The Earth Prize rewards the school: The winning team receives $100,000 to be split between the team members and their school. Three runner-up schools will be rewarded with $25,000 each. As part of the competition, one coordinator will be recognized as The Earth Prize Educator of the Year award and receive $10,000

You can read more about the competition at www.theearthprize.org/schools. Here is also a presentation that we have prepared in case you would like to share it with your colleagues and students. Please contact Ms. Theodoridou in case you want to join the project.
