PLANNER : WEEK JAN 26 - FEB 01

September 2022

Dear Pinewood Secondary Parents,

As we prepare for the opening of school on Monday, I would like to draw your attention to a number of practical details you need to be aware of.
Bell Schedule:
The school day starts at 08:40 and finishes at 15:20. When after-school activities start, these will run from 15:30 to 16:30. Stay tuned!
Buddy System:
All new students should head to the relevant desks in front of the main building in order to meet their Buddies who will be responsible to help them adjust during the first few days of school.
Attendance Policy:
You are kindly requested to notify the school of your child’s absence. If we do not hear from you, we will attempt to reach you that same day.
Tardy Arrivals:
If your child is late in the morning, then s/he will be kindly asked to come to the Principal’s Office in order to explain the reason and receive a pass before going to the classroom.

Cell phones:
By Greek law, during school hours and after-school activities (8:40 - 16:30), the use of cell phones is prohibited. Cell phones are to be turned off and kept in the student’s locker or backpack.

Dress Code:

We have revised the Dress Code taking the views of the Student Council into serious consideration. Revealing attire (i.e., short garments, sagging pants, v-shirts, and any items showing underwear) must not be worn at school. Students should bear in mind that the length of their clothes must not exceed limits -  approximately the length of the students’ mid-thigh.
Lockers:
All Secondary students will have a locker to store their belongings. Students in Grades 7 – 8 – 9  10 are kindly requested to bring a lock with them, with at least two keys, one of which they should hand over to their Advisor so that we make sure students can always access their locker if they lose their keys. Students in Grades 11-12 will be receiving a lock from school.

Covid-19:
The committee of epidemiological experts has decided to fully exempt pupils from the mandatory use of masks and self-testing.
When symptoms appear, a self-diagnostic test is recommended. If a student is infected, it is recommended that s/he remain isolated at home for five days, as is the case for the general population.

After the five-day period and if there are no symptoms or if symptoms improve and there is no fever for 24 hours without antipyretics, the isolation can end. The students returning to school must do so with the mandatory use of a high respiratory protection mask (N95 or KN95 or FFP2) or double mask for at least another five days after the end of isolation.

Canteen:
Pinewood has a canteen on campus with a limited selection of sandwiches, salads, and snacks. To avoid long lines, students are encouraged to place an order by clicking on the canteen link (found on the Pinewood website home page HERE). Orders must be placed daily by 9:00 a.m.
Catering:
The Pinewood Lunch Catering Service offers healthy, freshly-cooked food delivered directly to school each day through  Elena’s Gourmet. You may visit the link below in order to register for this service and view the menus on offer. This is a wonderful and convenient option for your child to have a hot, healthy meal at school every day. Please note that a minimum of 10 students need to sign up in order for this service to run.
Parent's Corner:
The site where you can find useful information, such as the Secondary Program of Studies, Supply Lists, Teachers’ Emails, Important Contacts, and this school year’s Calendar and each week's planner and important notifications.
Pinewood Communications:
Every Wednesday, please do read our weekly email with an update of everything important taking place in our community.
Parents' Night:
Save the Date: ThursdaySep 15, 18:00 - 20:30. You are cordially invited to meet with teachers and hear about the courses and programs. Kindly be reminded that this is not a time to ask a teacher about specifics related to your child.

Thank you in advance for your cooperation in these important matters. I know this is a lot of information, so please let me know if you have any questions!

I look forward to welcoming you at school on Monday!

Kind Regards,

Dr. Apostolos Rofaelas
