May 26, 2020

Dear Families,

As you probably already know, on Monday, June 1, we welcome back students in EYP1 through Grade 6. Our highest priority in returning to campus is the health and well-being of our students, faculty and staff.

In order to properly train our Early Years and Elementary staff, there will be no online classes this Friday, May 29th. Instead, the teachers will attend a health & safety Professional Development and prepare their classrooms for the students’ return to campus on Monday.

Guided by all measures for school health and safety during this period, as defined by the Greek Ministries of Health and Education, Pinewood is ready to fully reopen the campus. We have prepared a page on our new Pinewood website where you may find details of these measures. Click on the button below.

What do I need to know before my child returns to campus?

  • School hours will be staggered to reduce congestion at drop up and pick up

    • Early Years

      • Drop off between 8:45-9:00

      • Pick up between 14:45-15:00

    • Elementary

      • Drop off between 8:30-8:40

      • Pick up between 15:00-15:10

    • Secondary

      • Drop off between 8:20-8:30

      • Pick up between 15:10-15:20

  • All students will attend school on a daily basis unless more families decide to return to campus - then, we may have to go to a rotational schedule

  • All bus routes are in full operation (all families have been contacted)

  • During drop off and pick up, parents in grades 3-12 driving their children to school must park and remain in their cars

  • Parents in grades 1-2 may park and walk their child to the front door of the school for drop off and pick up

  • Early years parents may park and walk their child to the EY gate for drop off and pick up

  • Parents will not be allowed inside the school buildings unless they have a pre-arranged appointment

  • Parents must take their child’s temperature each morning before school

  • Temperatures above 37°C require the child to stay home from school

  • Masks are highly recommended (one reusable mask will be provided to each student)

  • There is a limit of 15 students per classroom

  • A minimum of 1.5 meter distance is placed between desks in classrooms

  • Additional supervision is in place to maintain social distancing

  • No visitors are permitted in the school

  • All after school activities are suspended

What should my child bring to school every day?

  • Snacks and a cold lunch - canteen, catering and use of microwaves are not permitted

  • Refillable water bottle (labeled) or plenty of water

  • Grades 3-6 should bring a laptop, charger, and headphones

  • School supplies including pencils, erasers, scissors, markers, glue sticks, etc. as supplies will not be shared

What if my child cannot return to campus on June 1?

In order to accommodate all students who cannot return at this time, live streaming will be available for all classes in grades 3-6. Live streaming means that your child will be able to listen to and watch his/her teachers in real-time for each class. We will share the Elementary Live Streaming Schedule by the end of this week. It will be each child’s responsibility to log into all live-streaming classes at the appropriate times on the schedule. Brightspace will be kept up-to-date as well for all students.

Children in Early Years through grade 2 will be provided with asynchronous learning. Teachers will provide learning materials and activities for these students.

If your child will return to campus at a date later than June 1 this year, you are required to indicate the date of return at least 1 week in advance by sending an email to the Principal, Ms. Mills. This is very important as we must ensure that we maintain class sizes of no more than 15 students.

When will school end this year for early years and elementary?

Due to the extensive online learning program that Pinewood teachers provided your children throughout the campus closure, we will finish teaching the yearly curriculum by June 18, which is our regularly scheduled last day of school. On June 18, students will be dismissed at 12.00 as our teachers will have their scheduled Professional Development in the afternoon. Also Friday, June 19, is a Professional Development day for our teachers so there will be no classes on that day.  We will offer a Bonus Week during the week of June 22-26. More details will be released in the upcoming weeks.

Please find below the guidelines for the parents and students issued by the Ministry of Education.

We will utilize several class periods on the first two days to explain the new health and safety procedures to our students and answer students’ questions in order to promote a safe learning environment for all.

Sincerely,

Dr. Roxanne Giampapa

Head of School
